GRAMA Initiatives and Programmes

At GRAMA, we believe in empowering communities and fostering sustainable development through a wide range of initiatives and programmes. Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to create lasting impact in rural areas, focusing on institution building, watershed development, microfinance, education, and more. Our efforts have touched the lives of thousands, transforming villages and creating opportunities for growth and self-reliance.

Our Core Initiatives

1. Institution Building

Since 1990, institution building has been at the heart of GRAMA’s mission. We have facilitated the formation and strengthening of community-based institutions in 320 villages, benefiting 39,641 individuals. These institutions serve as the backbone of rural development, enabling communities to take charge of their own progress.

2. Watershed Development

GRAMA has implemented numerous watershed projects across the region, supported by organizations like the World Bank, NABARD, and the Government of Karnataka. These projects have revitalized thousands of hectares of land, ensuring water security and improving agricultural productivity. Key projects include:

  • Bommakkanahalli Watershed (2000-02): Covered 500 hectares, benefiting 150 families.
  • Ashok Siddapura Watershed (2007-08): Revitalized 3,322 hectares, impacting 750 families.
  • MD Kote - Maradihalli Sub Watershed (2007-08): Transformed 5,361 hectares, benefiting 1,750 families.
  • PMKSY 2.0 Projects (2020-23): Holalkere and Hiriyur projects covering 10,822 hectares, benefiting 805 families.

3. Microfinance and Livelihood Support

GRAMA’s microfinance initiatives have empowered over 9,910 individuals across 250 villages, providing financial support and fostering entrepreneurship. Our partnerships with NABFINS and ICICI Bank have enabled us to extend credit facilities and training to women and marginalized communities.

4. Education and Skill Development

We are committed to building a brighter future through education and skill development. Our programmes include:

  • Informal Education (2012-15): Reached 150 individuals in 3 villages.
  • Human Resources Development (2009-2024): Trained 34,417 individuals in various skills, including leather stitching, tailoring, and income-generating activities.
  • Facilitated Asha Workers and Kusinamane Training (2023-24): Provided caretaker training to 2000 individuals in Chitradurga and Challakere.

5. Women’s Empowerment

GRAMA has formed 8 women’s federations, comprising 240 self-help groups (SHGs). These federations have become independent entities, driving economic and social change in their communities.

6. Health and Social Welfare

Our health initiatives focus on eradicating HIV/AIDS and improving community health. Key projects include:
